Homemade DIY Candyland with Kids

June 21, 2019

Last summer my kids and I started to daydream about making our own Candyland game with REAL candy!! I still have no clue where the idea came from but we kept dreaming about it… then we sketched something on paper… then went shopping for supplies. We had SO. MUCH. FUN. doing this together. This was NOT a one day project. We worked on it in stages and didn’t rush it. In the end, we had a game that we had created together and could actually play!! This will definitely go down as one of my all time favorite things I’ve ever done with my kids and I hope they feel the same.

THE LANDS: The kids and I first wrote out possible “lands” we could create and here is our final list:

THE BOARD: The board is just a large matte board from Hobby Lobby. I sketched the black out line for the path and the kids colored it.

THE GAME PIECES: The game pieces are Sour Patch Kids with a tac in the bottom to give it a flat surface to stand up. The kids made their own replicas of the cards out of index cards.
